MBS Digest is an independent newsletter for the metabolic and bariatric surgery community. This page explains how we're funded, how we handle conflicts of interest, and the limits of what we publish.

Independence and funding

INDEPENDENT BY DESIGN

No ads. No society. No vendor.

MBS Digest is reader-first and free. We don't run industry advertising, we aren't owned or governed by a professional society, and we accept no funding from device, pharmaceutical, or other commercial vendors. No sponsor, society, or vendor has any say in what we cover or how we cover it. If that ever changes, we'll disclose it here and label it clearly within the issue itself.

Editorial standards and conflicts of interest

MBS Digest is written and reviewed by practicing metabolic and bariatric surgeons. We choose content on clinical relevance and the strength of the evidence — not on commercial interest.

Members of our editorial board are active clinicians and researchers who may hold their own professional or financial relationships — for example, research grants, consulting arrangements, or society roles — that are entirely separate from MBS Digest. Those relationships do not influence what we select or how we summarize it. You can review our team's current disclosures in the disclosure repository.

How we use AI

We use AI tools to help gather, organize, and translate content — for example, surfacing new studies, drafting plain-language summaries, and producing our Spanish edition. AI assists our workflow; it does not replace clinical editorial judgment. Every issue is reviewed by our human editorial team of practicing surgeons before it is published, and we are responsible for what we send.

This is not medical advice

Everything here is for education and information only. It is not medical advice, a diagnosis, or a treatment recommendation, and it does not create a clinician–patient relationship. Clinicians should rely on their own judgment and the primary sources; patients should speak with their own care team before making any decision.

We link to journals, agencies, and other publishers so you can read the original. A link is not an endorsement, and we are not responsible for the accuracy, availability, or paywalls of third-party sites. Study findings and trademarks belong to their respective authors and owners.

Corrections and contact

We correct mistakes promptly. If you spot an error — or a conflict of interest we should disclose — email us at [email protected] and we'll put it right.
